This is one of my favorite sandwiches to make because it's so easy to tweak and play around with. You can switch up any ingredient and have a create a whole new taste! Not to mention it takes only minutes to make from start to finish. It's the perfect sandwich for a quick lunch or dinner, and oh so cheesy!

Today I'll be showing you my favorite way to make The Spicy Sicilian, using toasted Ciabatta bread, bubbly, melty provolone cheese, spicy jalapeño sauerkraut, and jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. That's right...four ingredients go into making this ooey gooey masterpiece, putting it right up at the top of the list for cheap eats that won't disappoint.

Just look at that cheese-pull!

If you like four alarm heat, switch out the jalapeño sauerkraut for sriracha sauerkraut, or any other spicy variant you prefer. Try it with mozzarella or cheddar cheese, or combine some of your favorites! You really can't go wrong with this sandwich, so get creative!

Pair with crispy garlic and herb kettle chips, a cold pasta salad, your favorite veggies, or let them stand alone...they're that good! Everyone at your table will be in love with The Spicy Sicilian! Now let's get started!

INGREDIENTS

Prep time: 5 min Cook time: 15 min Serves: 4

  • Ciabatta bread or rolls

  • 12 slices Provolone cheese

  • 4 jalapeño cheddar smoked sausages (or smoked sausage of your choice)

  • 2 cups smoked jalapeño sauerkraut (or spicy kraut of your choice)

  1. Preheat oven broiler.

  2. Pan fry smoked sausages until heated through and crisp on the outside

  3. While sausages cook, open up ciabatta bread (or rolls) and place 2 slices of

provolone cheese on the bottoms, and 1 slice on the top of each roll (as shown)

4. When the sausages are done, remove from heat and set aside.

5. Place ciabatta bread topped with cheese under broiler, leaving the oven door cracked open. Watch for approx. 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is lightly toasted. Make sure to keep a close eye on them, and set a timer for 1 minute at a time, as they can burn VERY quickly under the broiler.

6. Once you've removed the bread from the oven, add the cooked smoked sausages and then the sauerkraut to the bottom halves of the bread, then set the top bun on top. If you are using ciabatta rolls like I did, you can cut the sausages in half to fit.

And there you have it...a sandwich fit for a queen in 20 minutes or less! Take a moment to admire your toasty, melty creation before you dig in! And if you found this recipe on Pinterest, don't forget to submit a photo of your yummy creation!
